Thimphu, at an altitude of 2,400m, is one of the highest capitals in the world.

The scenic valley slopes up from the Wang Chu river, which flows from north to south. The most significant landmarks in the valley are the Tashichhodzong, the Memorial Chorten, the Changlimithang Ground, Changangkha Lhakhang,and a gigantic Buddha that overlooks the valley.
